Total Body HIIT Workout

Happy Saturday!!! It's finally the weekend :) I'm off to Phoenix this afternoon to meet up with the Tone It Up girls and I'm so excited! We are going to Party On A Bike spin class. 

Before I leave today I'm going to do this HIIT workout! My gym membership is through the U of A so I buy it yearly, and it expired last week. No big deal except this little teacher is broke until next week's paycheck :( SO! Living room workout it is.

Do you incorporate HIIT into your fitness routines? There are a ton of benefits from HIIT (High-Interval Intensity Training). Here are 5 major benefits:

1) Efficient
HIIT is perfect for a busy schedule. In fact, research shows that you can get more progress in 15 minutes of HIIT a couple of times a week than the girl jogging an hour a day on the treadmill.

Your body burns more fat during a HIIT routine than a long cardio session. You also burn more fat and calories in the 24 hours after a HIIT workout than you do after, say, a steady-pace run.

Lately I've been doing James Wilson's Body Earned weight lifting workouts at the gym, and 3 days a week doing HIIT running on the treadmill at the end (30 second sprint, 45 second walk, repeat for 12 minutes). This kind of running burns up fat and best of all, I don't have to run for an hour on the treadmill :) Here is a total body HIIT workout you can do in your living room with a pair of dumbbells.

  2. Great workout! I oftentimes do HIIT training at home when I'm too lazy to get to the gym. I usually end up getting an even better workout! Hope you're enjoying pheonix and your long weekend!!
